Rey Mysterio Quick Bio
Ø Oscar Gutierrez famous by his ring name “Rey Mysterio” was born on December 12, 1975.
Ø His uncle Rey Mysterio Sr. trained him and in 1989 he made his pro debut.
Ø Currently he is living in San Diego, CA. His wife name is Angie and they also have a daughter (Aalyah) and a son (Dominick).
ØIt was just a fictional story line that he had the battle with Eddie Guerrero for the custody of Dominick.
ØWhen Oscar Gutierrez entered the WWE, he changed to Mysterio and he spent much of his early career in the Mexico and AAA promotion.
ØHe gained some attention from promoters of North America when he appeared on their When Worlds Collide PPV. He wrestled in ECW in 1995. In 1996 he was signed by WCW.
Cruiserweight Champion
Ø Rey's
most famous moment occurred in 1996 in WCW when he was lawn darted by Kevin
Nash in the side of a trailer.
Ø He recovered his career nicely and he became a
mainstay in the cruiserweight title scene. Mysterio has various great matches
against both cruiserweights and luchadores alike.
Ø His most famous match of those days is a title
vs mask match at Halloween Havoc 1997 against Eddie Guerrero. He lost a
match in 1998 and was compelled to join the “Latino World Order”.
No Limit Soldier & No Mask
Ø After losing a tag team match from Scott Hall and Kevin Nash At Super Brawl 99 he was forced to unmask. Mysterio without mask became underdog and quickly defeated the home territory including Scott Norton, Kevin Nash and Bam Bigelow.
Ø After a
year he made a successful tag team with Billy Kidman and finally joined Master
P's No Limit Soldiers.
The Filthy Animals
Ø
After leaving WCW, he made “The
Filthy Animals” with Eddie Guerrero and Konan. Billy Kidman and Juventud Guerrera also joined
this group. They joined the New Blood in 2000 and later, they feuded with Team
Canada and the Misfits in Action.
Ø
Mysterio and Kidman at the
final WCW Nitro won the recently created cruiserweight tag team
championship.
WWE Career
Ø
Rey
played his debut match WWE in the summer of 2002. He came back with his mask
and the WWE deleted out all old pictures that shows his face.
Ø He was injured by the Big Show in the beginning of
2003 when he was swung, while attached to a stretcher, into a ring post. When
Rey came back to action, he briefly hold the cruiserweight title and then again
performed his tag team with Billy Kidman.
Ø
Eddie
& Rey won the tag team titles in 2005. Eddie was jealous that he never
defeated Mysterio and become his partner.
Ø Rey
Mysterio surprised the world when he won the Royal Rumble in 2006.
He became the World Heavyweight Championship by defeating champion Randy Orton and Kurt Angle. He held the WWE Championship for less than two hours on
July 25, 2011.
